Week 1 in the MTC

Hey guys!

This week has been super busy but good! I've grown a ton as a missionary and grown closer to the Lord.
On Thursday last week, I ran into my old roommate! We had a ton of fun living together before our missions and preparing together. We knew we would have one day of overlap in the MTC but didn't know if we would see each other. We were able to meet up for a few minutes and take a photo! It was so good to see her again!
On Friday, we were sitting in class when we got an email about a broken window on the 5th floor. The building has big floor to ceiling windows and somehow one broke. They had to close off the area below the window and the room. The rumor was that it was a bird but there is no way a bird broke that window. Us sisters have a theory that it was some elders and a metal waterbottle. No one knows for sure though.
After classes on Saturday, we went and played fooseball with the elders in my district. One elder was so good and he crushed everyone. No one wanted to play aginst Elder Hadley because no one ever won. He was so humble about it too, we were all cracking up.
On Sunday, we went to church and I got asked to play piano. It was a little odd because we are in a classroom and not a chapel. After church, Sister Eliason and I decided to lay in the sun because it was so nice out. We would have stayed out there all day if we didn't have choir practice. All of us though we would get a free day to relax, but not in the MTC. We had this thing called a Go and Do Experience. It is essentially two hours of personal study to focus on feeling the Spirit and recieve personal revelation. I was really tired and thought I wouldn't be able to focus, but I was actually able to stay focused and have a good time. I felt a lot of peace and comfort.
On Monday, we went right back to classes. The MTC was doing what they called “the cleanse.” Basically the entire MTC was going to be cleaned by the missionaries as a service activity and to prepare for General Conference this weekend. Luckily for my district, we had a temple appointment during it so we avoided “the cleanse” and got to do baptisms instead. We took photos at the temple again because the flowers were so pretty!
On Tuesday, we went got to attend a devotional by Elder Juan Pablo Villar of the Seventy. He was so funny and helped us to realize that as long we belive in Christ, then we will be great missionaries. We also met Bonnie H. Cordon in our residence hall. We were all in our PJs but had to get a photo with her! It was so cool!
On Wednesday, we got to do initiatories at the Provo Temple. It was such a cool experience. After dinner, we went to the feild to play some games with our district.
This week was so long but fun! Our district is getting a lot closer. We are only a week away from leaving the MTC. The days are long but the weeks are short! This weekend is General Conference, which I invite all of you to watch!

Finally in the MTC

Hey guys!

I am finally in the MTC after a week of home MTC. Home MTC was a little rough because I was on zoom meetings for several hours a day and it was hard to make a connection with my district and companion. But I have finally met my companion in person and the rest of my district.
I flew out to Utah on Tuesday and Tanner and his wife picked me up. I stayed the night at their apartment. The next morning, Emma took me to Swig and the BYU bookstore to get some chocolate covered cinnamon bears to share with my district. We met up with Tanner at Brick Oven Pizza for my final meal. We took photos at the temple, then they dropped me off. The missionaries immediately grabbed my suitcases and everyone was so welcoming.  I got all my stuff and unpacked.
The first day was crazy. We got to unpack, set up our phones, and met our companions. Then we had class, a meeting, dinner, another meeting, and then we were free. A little busy, but overall super good and full of a ton of spiritual messages.  My companion and I were finally able to go back to our room to shower. I am not a fan of communal showers at all. But I'll get over it. We went to bed on time because we were all tired.
The next day was p-day and we had service right after breakfast so we got to wear service clothes. You can't enter the cafeteria in service clothes though so we had to go grab sack breakfast. We went to our service opportunity and cleaned bathrooms. It was actually kinda fun because my companion and I joked and talked the whole time. They let us go early so we ran back to our room to change for the temple.
My district had the opportunity to go do an endowment session at the temple. It was super cool to go to the temple with so many other missionaries. I always leave the temple with the feeling of peace and happiness. We didn't plan our time quite right though because we got back right after lunch had ended. We ran to where the sack lunches are and a super nice employee let us in to get our lunches. We sat outside, talked and just got to know each other better. I think our district will be pretty close by the end of our MTC experience!
I'm only two days into the MTC and it has been pretty good. I'm excited to get to know my companion a lot better and to grow closer to Christ. Hope you all have a great week!
Love,
Sister O'Barr
